You've probably seen all over the Internet that Microsoft is killing off Windows Live Messenger by March 2013. But they're also discontinuing support for Office 2010 PRO Plus. Fortunately, they offer a FREE Confirmation ID when you buy Office 2010 PRO Plus, which gives you access to free updates until 2023! It's really easy to get your Confirmation ID. All you need to do is log in with your Windows Live ID (something you already have if you're reading this post). Then just click on "My Office" and copy the ""ID" link. Then take this ID, and sign in to your Microsoft account. Click "Office Insider" and paste your Confirmation ID into the box where it says "Click to select". Click the big blue tick! And you're ready to go. This free Confirmation ID will work for other Microsoft products too, so its worth getting even if you don't need Office 2010 PRO Plus (unless of course you're an Instant Expert 😉 ). Sincerely, The Office Insider (and blogger!) team. [/ARTICLE END] Microsoft has confirmed that they will be ending Windows Live Messenger support at the end of March 2013. This has been rumoured for a while, but they have only just confirmed it. Live Messenger was originally launched in 1999 and is one of the most used instant messaging platforms in the world. In 2011 they reported over 330 million active users. Despite the rumours, Live Messenger will continue to operate after March 2013. However, limited support will be limited to security patches and critical updates only. This means that a lot of the functions of live messenger may break or stop working altogether. Because of this, I'm going to show you how you can switch from using Windows Live Messenger to using Skype for Windows 8 from next month on when they end support for Messenger. I've written a step by step guide on how to do this on my blog. Go check it out! Sincerely, The Office Insider (and blogger!) team. Microsoft is discontinuing support for Office 2010 Professional Plus after 15th October 2012 by no longer providing bug fixes, security updates or technical support. This means that any problems you may find with Office 2010 after this date will not be fixed unless you're an administrator of the company who purchased the license. This new policy was announced back in April 2012, but has only just come into effect now. For most home user's, this change will have no effect on them. However, if you're using Office 2010 for work it may be worth getting in touch with your IT department to find out how you can continue to receive support services for Office 2010 Professional Plus after 15th October 2012. Sincerely, The Office Insider (and blogger!) team. You may have heard rumours about Microsoft killing off Windows Live Messenger sometime next year. This isn't true! However, Microsoft are starting to phase out the service, which is still very popular with millions of people around the world. Instead they are focusing on their new instant messaging service called Skype. Skype currently has over 170 million active users worldwide.
